Biography

I am an Associate Professor of Informatics at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Dar es Salaam. I have a PhD in Interactive Technology/Human-Computer Interaction from the University of Tampere in Finland. My research interests include eLearning, Human-Computer Interaction, and information systems success. In the last 10 years, I have been involved in several Edutech projects such as games-based learning, interactive physics experiments, and the use of digital diaries for parental engagement. Other projects include the Retooling project (funded by the World Bank) and later Halostudy project, aimed at improving subject content knowledge of teachers, Pan African Virtual and E-University (funded by the African Union). I have also been involved in the evaluation of the performance and value for money (VfM) of several systems such as Government electronic payment gateway (GePG) (Implemented by MoF), iTAX and EFDMIS (implemented by TRA), Local Government Revenue Collection Information System (LGRCIS) and School Information System (implemented by PO-RALG).

For the past 5 years, I have supervised 28 MSc and 8 PhD students. Among them, 11 MSc students and 4 PhD researchers have successfully completed their studies and have already graduated. Also, I have examined more than 40 MSc and PhD theses and dissertations of students from universities in more than 10 countries in Africa and beyond.

I am an Associate Editor of two journals: The East African Journal of Science, technology and Innovation (EAJSTI) and the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies. I have also published more than 50 scientific articles in international journals and presented in several conferences in Tanzania and outside.

I also work as the Director of the Center for Virtual Learning and coordinator of eLearning Research Group which has more than 20 masters and 10 PhD students.
