Group Information
Network and Cyber Security (NCS) Research Group is an interested research group in issues related to communication networks and cybersecurity hosted at the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT) of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Tanzania. The objective of the group is to nurture professionalism in education, research, industrial and social practices in the field of communication networks, information security and privacy.
NCS group members and industrial invited guests have been conducting researches, curriculum development, awareness programmes and deployment of services and products in areas spanning to theoretical foundations of wired and wireless communication networks, mobile computing, distributed systems, multimedia streaming, secure infrastructures, cryptography, crypto-currency, secure communication frameworks and protocols, vulnerability and digital-forensic assessments.
Activities
Research: Members of NCS research group have conducted more than 25 research studies in the areas of wired and wireless communication networks, mobile computing, distributed systems, multimedia streaming, secure infrastructures, cryptography, crypto-currency, secure communication frameworks and protocols, vulnerability and digital-forensic assessments. Some of these researches have completed and others still ongoing.
Curriculum Development: The NCS research group is also pioneering the establishment of curriculum programmes such as a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and networks and security courses for the undergraduate level.
Awareness Programmes: The NCS research group has offered public seminars to create awareness of an interesting community. The following public seminars have offered for free:
- A seminar titled “Understanding Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency” conducted by Dr Kosmas Kapis (UDSM/CoICT), Mr Kisa Kazibwe and Dr Joseph Mushi (UDSM/CoICT) on 17th 2018 at 14:00 – 16:00 Hrs.
- A seminar titled “GePG Scalability Opportunities via Emerging Web Technologies” conducted by Dr Joseph Mushi (UDSM/CoICT) and Mr Salum Shomvi (Hazina) on 22nd 2021 at 15:30 – 17:00 Hrs.
